Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp wants to sign the ‘next Virgil Van Dijk’
By Bence Bocsak
The Liverpool boss is desperate to get his man.
At the weekend, the Reds’ defence seemed fragile on paper. There was a dreaded mood going into the game around social media. When Liverpool conceded the first goal, the mood only seemed to intensify.
However, thereon the club’s makeshift centre-back partnership seemed to thrive. Nathan Phillips was stalwart figure at the back. One could hardly tell that was the Englishman’s first appearance in the Premier League.
Nathan Phillips was combative, commanding in the air and usually astute in the tackle. He did well to keep West Ham’s strike force at bay.

If Nathan Phillips continues to impress in the absence of some of the club’s best defenders, the Englishman could save Jurgen Klopp a lot of money.
However, in the meantime is seems like the club are also lining-up alternatives.
One such target according to the Sunday Mirror via ESPN is the Ajax defender Perr Schuurs.
The highly rated 20 year old is regarded as one of the best Dutch centre-back prospects at the moment.
He is tipped to emulate the man he could potentially replace in Virgil Van Dijk at Liverpool.
A tall and commanding centre-back who is astute on the ball and clever in his positional play, Perr Schuurs would suit the hustle and bustle nature of the Premier League.
The Ajax defender has already proven his class against the club last month with a solid display which silenced the Reds terrific attacking trio in Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
Ajax don’t often sell for hefty prices either which would mean the club could attract Perr Schuurs to Anfield for a relatively cheap figure.
The Reds have long kept an eye on the defender, Liverpool were interested in signing Perr Schuurs prior to his move to Ajax in 2018. However, the young Dutchman chose to move to Ajax in search of more first team opportunities.
The move paid dividends, after the departure of Mathijs de Ligt, Perr Schuurs was handed the mantle to spearhead the defence and he hasn’t looked back since.
Do you think Perr Schuurs would be a good signing for the Reds?
