This former Liverpool star could become a rival.
For decades, there has been a fierce and hostile rivalry between Liverpool and the red side of Manchester. Historically the two great Northern cities are perpetually in war with one another. Often competing for trade during the industrial era, the locals passionately detest one another.
The feelings of mutual antagonism haven’t abated yet. In fact it seems to be on the rise.
While the Reds’ intense rivalry was at its peak against the Red Devils of Manchester, the club had an amicable relationship with the blue side of the city.

Manchester City and Liverpool were hardly ever rivals until the 2010s. In fact for many years the clubs had somewhat of a soft spot for another. Many of the Reds’ ex stars also played for Manchester City. Players like Dietmar Hamman, Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman.
However in recent years, a strong and fierce animosity has developed between the two sides.
Perhaps the first spark was the moment when City lured Raheem Sterling away from Anfield.
The academy graduate’s departure left a sour taste in many of the club’s supporters and Sterling was subsequently booed during his return’s to Merseyside.
Undoubtedly, the rivalry reached its climax when the Reds knocked City out of the Champions League and then the intense Premier League title race during the 2018/19 season.
The two clubs are still probably England’s best two teams and they will be competing for the Premier League title once more this season.
Daniel Sturridge has experienced this rivalry from a Liverpool perspective. However the England international’s roots stretch back to Manchester City where he first honed his talent.
And his former teammate Micah Richards has backed Daniel Sturridge to make a shock return back to the Etihad.
Speaking to BBC Sport via the Liverpool Echo, Micah Richards claimed Daniel Sturridge would be an ideal back-up for Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus at City.
It would be an audacious move and one which would embitter many of the club’s supporters. Seeing Daniel Sturridge who is regarded as a cult hero at Anfield play for the club’s rivals would not be a welcome sign.
One will have to hope Micah Richards’ words are not heeded by Pep Guardiola.
Would you still like Daniel Sturridge if he returned to Manchester City?
