Could Liverpool sign this midfielder?

Sadio Mane, Naby Keita and Takumi Minamino, what do they all have in common? Apart from playing for Liverpool, they all represented the white and red of Red Bull Salzburg in respective spells with the Austrian outfit.

The Reds’ relationship with Red Bull Salzburg seems to be a fairly amicable one. Former Liverpool youth products have also gone onto represent Salzburg in Andre Wisdom and Peter Gulacsi. It is a relationship which has blossomed in recent years and the game between the two sides was fought with an aura of friendliness about it in the Champions League last season.

Meanwhile in the summer, the friendly game was another marker of warming relations between the two sides.

Jesse Marsch deploys a similar style to Jurgen Klopp’s Reds. The American is a staunch advocate of the geggenpress and his players run around the pitch with the same boisterous energy as Klopp’s men.

Recently there has been rumours of Erling Haaland, another former Red Bull Salzburg player joining the club. However, Haaland is not the only player the Reds are purportedly keeping an eye on.

Earlier this year, Dominik Szoboszlai described playing at Anfield ‘as a dream come true.’ And the Reds have been tipped to make a move for the Hungarian.

A creative playmaker, with speed and stupendous technique, Dominik Szoboszlai could be an astute addition for the club.

And his father, speaking to First Time Finish gave an update on Dominik Szoboszlai’s future.

This is what Zsolt Szoboszlai had to say.

"‘Unfortunately nothing is public, we could go around in circles, but nothing is public yet, we have our plans, we know how to proceed, but for now we cannot reveal anything,’"

It looks like Dominik Szoboszlai has a clear plan but understandably his entourage are keeping tight lipped about his future. Whether that will see him end up at Anfield, only time will tell.

One thing for sure the perpetually energetic midfielder could be a great addition. His numbers since lockdown have been incredible in his last 25 games he has 13 goals and 20 assists. The Reds would have to fight off competition from RB Leipzig, Arsenal and AC Milan for his signature but with Dominik Szoboszlai regarded as one of the best players in Europe, it’s a fight worth pursuing.

His shooting technique is reminiscent of Steven Gerrard and he could slot in well alongside the Reds’ midfield three.
