Liverpool dealt major boost ahead of Manchester City clash
Liverpool midfielder Fabinho is reportedly interested in signing a new deal with the club.
The Brazilian international joined the Reds from Monaco in the summer of 2018 for a transfer fee of £39 million according to BBC. Since then, Fabinho has made 90 appearances for the club, scoring three goals while providing seven assists. He was an integral part of Liverpool’s successes in the Premier League and Champions League while also establishing himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.
Fabinho has become a key player for Jurgen Klopp and it looks like he wants to extend his contract at Liverpool. According to the Express, noted journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that the 27-year-old wants to extend his stay at Merseyside.

Speaking in his Here We Go podcast, the Italian said: “Talks are going to start for Fabinho to extend his contract with Liverpool. It is the same situation [as] Van Dijk, they have the same contract, so two years [remaining] with Liverpool. Fabinho wants to extend his contract with Liverpool.”
The 27-year-old is a brilliant player who adds an extra defensive layer to the team. Additionally, he can also play as a centre-back and a right-back as he did during his time at Monaco. Hence, having such a versatile player for a long time would undoubtedly be extremely useful for the Reds. We fans can only hope that contract talks begin soon and Fabinho will sign a new deal.
The Brazilian has featured in ten matches this season so far and did pretty well in those fixtures. Unfortunately, an injury during the Champions League game against Midtjylland has ruled him out for a while and he won’t be featuring in this weekend’s encounter against Manchester City. However, according to Metro (via the Athletic), Fabinho will be back after the international break and could feature in the Reds’ fixture against Leicester City at Anfield.
Klopp would undoubtedly want the 27-year-old back as soon as possible and he’ll probably play centre-back in the absence of Van Dijk.
