Liverpool: The one thing Jurgen Klopp must do to stop Manchester City
By Roy Skillen
Liverpool have a point to prove.
It’s tough being a Liverpool fan. After walking to the league title last season this year simply couldn’t have gone any worse. We started our defence of the English Premier League trophy with a shaky performance against newly promoted Leeds Utd.
The Yorkshire club terrorised Van Dijk and Co, creating a whopping three shots on target over the 90 minutes. Sloppy uncontrolled wins over potential top of the table challengers Chelsea and Arsenal followed before a 7-2 thumping defeat at the hands of Aston Villa and a season-ending injury to Virgil Van Dijk signalled to the world that our season was already well and truly over.
The next few weeks only cemented the fact that we Klopp’s men are past their best and likely to end the year trophy-less. New signing Thiago Alcantara followed Big Virg to the treatment room as did Brazilian superstar Fabinho along with midfielders Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain.

With the injury crisis growing the following results were also less than satisfactory. We beat Ajax 1-0 in Amsterdam, grabbed 2-1 wins over Sheffield Utd and West Ham beat Danish champions Midtjylland 2-0, and fans were forced to endure a 5-0 win over though Italian outfit, Atalanta.
Watching Diogo Jota score his first hat-trick for the club and seeing the one-season wonder Mo Salah equal Steven Gerrard European Goal Scoring record was painful. Liverpool fans all across the globe must be seething seeing their team sitting comfortably top of Champions League Group D and joint top of the Premier League.
It must be soul-destroying knowing that as our injury list shortens our squad is probably the best in the league and even more devastating knowing that some players are yet to hit top form.
My issue now is, will this crisis continue against Manchester City this weekend? Because if it does I am not really sure if I can take the stress and I might have to dig out my old Tranmere Rovers shirt instead.
