Liverpool have been given the latest on Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian super-talent and the latest Golden Boy recipient is every Manchester United supporters’ dream, however Erling Haaland has been prophesised to take a different route, a small distance away from Manchester.

According to Haaland’s former sporting director, Christoph Freund, the Norwegian will ‘land at Liverpool.’

The news came as a surprise to many Reds supporters. After all Haaland has never tangibly been linked with the club.

It has led many to surmise, whether Christoph Freund’s words were taken out of context. And while the sporting director may simply have been speaking his own opinion, it may not necessarily mean Mr Freund is clueless when it comes to the subject.

Red Bull Salzburg and Liverpool have enjoyed a ‘close’ relationship in recent years. From playing friendlies, to the Reds trying to mimic Salzburg’s training facilities and of course the plethora of players who Klopp has brought to Anfield from the Austrian champions.

The amicable relationship means Christoph Freund is not exactly an outsider when it comes to the club.

To address the speculation, Erling Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge spoke to Sport via the Liverpool Echo and said the following:

"“When you play well, it’s only logical that big clubs knock on the door. But we’re talking about speculation here. At the moment it is not in Erling’s or in my head that another club will be vying for him. We signed a long contract with Dortmund and BVB have a fantastic team for Erling right now. We don’t want to look any further yet."

So for now it seems the Norwegian is staying put.

However, what the future holds remains to be seen.

Klopp’s front three have been bolstered by the addition of Diogo Jota who has been stupendous since his arrival at Anfield.

Salah, Mane and Firmino are all approaching their early thirties, at some point in the future their performance levels will drop and perhaps they may yearn for a new challenge.

Under those circumstances, the Reds will most certainly try to recruit an adequate replacement. And who better than the fearless and fearsome Erling Haaland?

Who better than a striker who scored from kick-off in his first international game at fifteen? (via First Time Finish)

Who better than a striker with golden locks, reminiscent of the a certain number nine who was adored on Merseyside many years ago.

A man with the finishing touch and the confidence to become one of the best players in the history of the game.

A man who has already scored at Anfield.
