Right-back: Neco Williams (5.5/10)

Made one excellent challenge on Robin Gosens as Atalanta were building an attack down the Liverpool right. However, Atalanta continued to attack down Williams’ flank as they wanted to take advantage of his limited experience.

Got forward a lot, but the crossing could do with some work.

Centre-back: Rhys Williams (5/10)

Williams had experienced a pretty cruisy start to his Liverpool career but this Atalanta game was a bit of an education for him. The teenager was completed static for Gosens goal, and should have been more aware of his positioning to stop the German having such an easy path to goal.

Centre-back: Joel Matip (6/10)

The voice of experience at the back, Matip was tasked with leading this backline and didn’t play badly, although he wasn’t incredible. Could he have done more for those two goals? Maybe not the first, possibly the second.

His distribution was fine, but that performance probably mirrored Liverpool’s a little bit.

Left-back: Kostas Tsimikas (6/10)

The Greek international was brought in as an Andy Robertson replacement and showed why Liverpool signed him this summer as he took up advanced positions and looked to supply the same level of attacking threat.

Tsimikas might not be on the level of Robertson, not yet, but his crossing was impressive. Was he at fault for the goal? Probably not, but Sadio Mane could have probably communicated better.
