Could Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool come back to haunt Southampton?

Liverpool could sign another Southampton player.

Southampton and Liverpool have a weird relationship of sorts. Under the Brendan Rodgers era, and seeping into Jurgen Klopp’s reign, the Reds prized away many of Southampton’s key assets.

From Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne and Sadio Mane, the Reds poached almost half of Southampton’s team.

As such they were greeted with some infamy by Southampton supporters. There was even a slight rivalry formed between the two sides.

In recent years that rivalry has vanished. Especially, with the Reds allowing Danny Ings to depart the other way and the former Reds star becoming a hero at the St Mary’s stadium.

Ings’ success seems to have alleviated the tensions between the two sides. With both teams being led by German managers there seems to be an amicable relationship between the Reds and Southampton.

However that could change.

Jurgen Klopp’s injury crisis has been well noted this season, especially in the defender department.

It is likely the Reds will look to invest in a centre-back in January with both Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk ruled out with long term injuries.

And the Reds could turn their attention towards a Southampton defender in their pursuit to bolster their options and solve their injury crisis.

That Southampton defender should be Jan Bednarek.

The Polish giant has been superb at the back for Southampton this season and his height as well as his ability to play on the ball could be exactly what Jurgen Klopp and his side are looking for.

At 24 years of age the Pole is relatively young as well and still has plenty of time to develop. Under Klopp’s leadership who has a history of developing Polish players such as Lewandowski and Piszczek at Dortmund, Bednarek could become a formidable force.

Jan Bednarek’s strength and pace is exactly what the Reds’ defence have lacked in the absence of Van Dijk.

In addition to that, Jan Bednarek would come at a relatively cheap price considering the Reds’ other targets. Purchasing Bednarek could therefore safe the club a hefty amount which Klopp could then invest elsewhere.

Do you think Jan Bednarek would be a good signing?
