Liverpool could have their own Cristiano Ronaldo.
Liverpool infamously rejected the opportunity to sign Cristiano Ronaldo before he moved from Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United and made a name for himself as the best player in the world.
It was mistake then Reds’ boss Gerard Houlier must now rue.
However, Jurgen Klopp could amend his predecessor’s error.

In Portugal as Cristiano Ronaldo nears his late thirties there are whispers and speculation about who will replace the nation’s legendary star when he eventually does decide to hang up his boots.
And one name who is currently on the lips of many is Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp’s very own star man, Diogo Jota.
The club’s new signing has taken Anfield by storm. His tricky ability to slalom past defenders with ease and his innate sense for the goal has seen him score 8 goals in his last 8 games for the club.
Diogo Jota is producing similar quality performances at international level having netted his first goal for Portugal earlier this year.
His rapid speed, ability to beat players one on one and his sense for the goal are certainly reminiscent of a certain Cristiano Ronaldo.
Of course those comparisons are a bit far fetched, however if Diogo Jota continues in the same rich form at club and international level he could in time alleviate the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo at international level.
Meanwhile at Anfield, he could have the same influence as Cristiano Ronaldo had at the club’s arch rivals in Old Trafford.
One thing is for certain, Diogo Jota has caught everyone by surprise, but no one is complaining about his sudden burst to form.
The Reds now have four incredible attacking options going forward and even amidst the current injury crisis unfurling at the club, it makes Klopp and his side a formidable force.
Jota’s link up play with Salah, Firmino and Mane has been especially impressive. The player seems to have been tailor made for the Reds and it has been an absolute joy and pleasure watching him strut his stuff on the Anfield turf.
Long may it continue.
Do you think Diogo Jota can replace Cristiano Ronaldo at international level?
