Liverpool could have signed this star.

Liverpool have made some strange transfers in the past. The Reds’ have had representatives from all over the world and their scouting network reaches far and wide. But perhaps one of the biggest eyebrow raisers in recent years will be how close the club came to signing one of North Korea’s brightest talents.

According to a recent report by First Time Finish with ISM Academy coach, Mauro Costorella, the Reds were ‘very close’ to signing Han Kwang Song. The Liverpool scout, Barry Hunter, even tried to entice the North Korean forward with the promise that he would get to meet Steven Gerrard.

Sadly Han Kwang Song had no idea who Gerrard was.

But who exactly is Han Kwang Song?

The North Korean forward was recruited by ISM an academy in Italy at the age of 16 and he honed his skills at the esteemed academy.

Since then after his move to the Reds falling through due to political ramifications, Han Kwang Song has played in the Serie A for Cagliari and Juventus.

He now finds himself in Qatar at Al-Duhail. Due to the fractured nature of his homeland and the UN, Han Kwang Song is currently unable to sign a professional contract. His situation is explained in detail by First Time Finish.

The talented forward was clearly admired by Liverpool. His explosive nature and speed would have been the perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Sadly it never came to be.

Though in reality, the Reds could have dodged a bullet. Han’s former club Juventus are under investigation by the UN for signing the North Korean earlier this year. Juventus were actually forced to sell Han Kwang Song just six days after recruiting him.

Despite the North Korean’s tremendous talent, the risk of bringing him to Anfield and potentially being sanctioned by the UN was clearly not a risk worth taking for the club.

One must feel sorry for the young lad though. At the end of the day, Han Kwang Song is a player who was clearly deemed good enough to play for the Reds and some of the best clubs in the world, but must now face the harsh reality of being unable to pursue his dreams.
