The Liverpool captain has spoken out.

Jordan Henderson has served almost an entire decade at Liverpool. Having arrived as a fresh faced youngster the Reds’ captain went through the good and the bad at Anfield, and sometimes even the ugly.

During his time at the club, Jordan Henderson did not just mature on the pitch and establish himself as a key player for the Reds, however he also grew off it.

In recent months, Jordan Henderson became one of the key leading white figures in the Premier League to support the Black Lives Matter movement. Henderson has been praised for his role, and for speaking out against racism.

However, there were many criticism directed in his way too. Some accused the Reds’ captain of hypocrisy. After all, Jordan Henderson was part of a Liverpool team which wore t-shirt of Luis Suarez after he was accused of racist abuse by Patrice Evra.

Recently in a BBC documentary made by Anton Ferdinand, Jordan Henderson has admitted his regret over the incident.

The Reds’ captain said the following:

‘Looking back on it now I’m not sure we dealt with it in the best way. Our point of views was on protecting Luis, but really we did not think about Patrice and that’s where we got it wrong from top to bottom.’

Henderson took ‘full responsibility’ for the incident and his admission of guilt speaks volumes of his character. It will also be go in some way to help alleviate the pain and the hurt the club caused to many BAME Reds supporters who felt alienated by the incident.

Henderson’s powerful act is yet more proof and justification for his deserved nomination for BBC’s Sports Personality of Year.

The Reds’ Premier League captain is leading by example both on and off the pitch and the club are lucky to have him in the dressing room.
