The Liverpool goalkeeper will be back soon.

There were groans and nails torn when news of Alisson Becker’s injury circulated around Twitter and then confirmed by the club’s official channels. The Liverpool goalkeeper position without their Brazilian in between the sticks has been fragile to say the least.

So the nail-biting and fear mongering from the Reds supporters was somewhat justified. Who can blame them.

Those who grew up on the blunders of Mignolet, endured the horror show of Karius and then the ineptitude of Adrian.

But on Tuesday night, Jurgen Klopp introduced a new character to the fray.

22 year old Caoimhin Kelleher had the pressure on his shoulders. Having been treated to plenty of goalkeeper horror shows in the past (notably the absolute nightmare Adam Bogdan was) the Irish stopper probably had some sceptics too.

Kelleher proved them all wrong with a stunning display and he has definitely made Alisson’s absence for the time being somewhat bearable.

Thankfully, according to Jurgen Klopp his Brazilian stopper will not be out for long.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Jurgen Klopp said:

‘[We] did a scan, it’s a little one but enough for today and probably for another week.’

The injury boost will be a breath of fresh air to the Reds supporters who have been used to Klopp compounding their misery with the announcement of yet another fallen soldier.

In Alisson’s absence, Kelleher is likely to retain his place in the games against Wolverhampton which will be a huge test for the Irish stopper. If Kelleher lives up to the test, the Reds might have just found their perfect number two.

But if he does not, the good news is Alisson will likely return for Klopp in the club’s following Premier League fixture against Fulham.

And that will be music to the ears of the Reds supporters.

With such a heavy fixture schedule and key games coming up against Premier League rivals, Klopp will want his best players firing and rearing to go.

The next month or so could determine the Reds’ fortunes for the rest of the season and whether a consecutive Premier League title is a feasible possibility.

Alisson could play a huge part in that.
