The Liverpool full-back had strong words.

Liverpool’s front three have been one of the most stupendous attacking tridents in the history of the game. They are not only potent, fearless but they have an innate understanding between one another on the pitch.

All together they scored almost 300 goals under Jurgen Klopp which is an incredible feat and yet more proof that they will forever be indelible in the club’s history.

In the past three seasons the Reds’ attacking trio has made some of the best defenders in the world quake in their boots.

And while they have stumbled at times this season, the addition of Diogo Jota has made them even more formidable.

But there are still murmurs, that this current group are ‘selfish.’ Especially among critics who expected more and more from the club’s front three.

Andy Robertson has also been a standout performer this year and he has spoke out in defence of his teammates.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo via the Daily Express, Andy Robertson said the following:

"“The relationship [between the front players] off the pitch is really strong, and on the pitch, the link-up play and everything is always good,” he said. But these players are also paid to be selfish and we need them to score goals and take risks in the final third, and we add [Diogo] Jota into that category now. When they are in front of goal, we expect them to shoot and score. There have been certain occasions where people say Bobby could have passed, Sadio could have passed, or Mo could have passed, but these guys are paid money to make split-second decisions and score goals for us.”"

The Scotsman’s words are right.

Those who speak out in criticism of the club’s front three have no understanding of football or the nature of being a forward.

Like Robertson said, being a striker involves a degree of selfishness. When that selfishness goes right, there are often no eyebrows raised, only when the forward ends up making the wrong decision is he criticised.

Having played so many games, which is a huge mental toll, the Reds’ forward trio’s poor decision making can be excused.

There is no doubt that they will sharpen their wits with time and will be back to their merciless selves.

Do you think the club should sell one of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in the summer?
