Liverpool have their first signing of January.

Liverpool are always on the look-out for the next big thing. Even before the new regulations for the Brexit deal was announced, the Reds had an knack for signing players from lower league English sides and bringing them to their academy.

Notably the first and biggest success was Raheem Sterling, but other candidates like Herbie Kane, Sheyi Ojo, Jordon Ibe, Harvey Elliott, Joe Gomez and Yan Dhanda just to name a few have also enjoyed relatively bright periods in the club’s academy.

Of course the new regulations which come into effect after the end of the year, there will be an even bigger emphasis on bringing some of the country’s elite talent to Anfield.

With the new facilities installed which allows both the academy players and the first team to train in the same environment, the hope is that more players will be bedded into the first team.

And according to the latest reports the Reds are already preparing to make their first move this January.

According to the Times, the Reds have a agreed a fee for Birmingham City’s 15 year old star Calum Scanlon.

Calum Scanlon is capable of playing as a full-back and as a left-midfielder which will definitely appeal to Jurgen Klopp and it is an area where the club are currently short of options.

Of course at such a tender age Calum Scanlon will slot into the club’s academy first and will be given the chance to impress there before making the step-up.

Birmingham City are renowned for their academy production line. Most recently the biggest success to come out from the club was Jude Bellingham who is now excelling in Germany at Borussia Dortmund and who is regarded as England’s biggest prospect.

Calum Scanlon is yet more indication of the club’s bright future. With teenagers like Curtis Jones and Rhys Williams impressing in the first team this season and Harvey Elliott excelling on-loan in the Championship, Klopp has a plethora of exciting starlets ready for the step-up.

Calum Scanlon will be hoping to follow suit.
