Liverpool could have a new star.

The blonde hair tousled by the wind. The long sleeves. The Nike T90 boots with ankle tapes wrapped around the crimson red socks. You knew what was coming next. A Liverpool masterclass. Masterminded by none other than the hero of the Kop. The man who should no longer be named. A myth.

Fernando Torres.

They wrote him poems, love letters, ballads. Knitted him scarves and screamed his name in adulation. The Anfield faithful were devoted to their blonde haired hero. Fernando Torres was one of them.

More from Rush The Kop

Sadly his abrupt departure has enshrouded his name in infamy. But the legacy of those fleeting years at the Kop End endures.

It’s a mythological tale of heroism. Conquering the enemy and the sad but inevitable downfall of the hero worthy of a Greek tragedy.

For over a decade since his departure the Anfield faithful have yearned for the return of someone of the same ilk.

Many heroes have come and gone, but none have compared to Fernando Torres so far.

That could very well change soon.

The Athletic have written a piece on Layton Stewart. A prolific forward in the club’s academy and in the piece they have likened the 18 year old to Fernando Torres.

Stewart does possess that striker’s instinct which made Torres so formidable at Anfield. The young striker has already netted 13 times for the club’s U18s in just 9 games.

That incredible form alone screams of memories of Torres. However, there is more to the comparisons than just goals. The nature of Layton Stewart’s movement is eerily similar to the Spaniard.

Just like Torres, Layton Stewart is adept at running behind defensive lines and catching them off guard. Torres developed a habit of running through on goal, one on one with the keeper and Stewart is the same.

With such an incredible record at academy level, Stewart’s prowess will surely be recognised soon enough by Jurgen Klopp.

Especially with the academy and the first team more intertwined than ever.

And when the inevitable becomes a reality, perhaps a new lover affair will be kindled from the flames of an old but familiar passion.

Next. Liverpool have made their first signing of the window. dark

Are you excited to see Layton Stewart play in the first team?
