Liverpool want to sign a star adored by Pep.

Pep Guardiola has been the enemy, the victim and the destroyed of Liverpool. He’s brought us joy, comedy but tears too. The Spaniard is one of the best coaches in the Premier League and rightfully so, him and Klopp share a perpetually brewing rivalry.

It may have petered out somewhat with the Reds running away to lift the Premier League title last season. However, Guardiola is right in the midst of Klopp’s shadow this time around. And the rivalry will be fuelled even further.

Another rivalry where things might get heated is in the transfer window.

Last season Manchester City were crippled by a long term injury to their main man in defence Aymeric Laporte. This time around it is the Reds who are embroiled in a crisis and Klopp might be looking to rectify it in the January transfer window.

According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano speaking on the Qué Golazo Podcast the Reds are looking to sign and are seriously considering bringing in David Alaba from Bayern Munich.

However at the moment it is Real Madrid who are the favourites to sign him.

David Alaba was Pep Guardiola’s favourite player during their time at Bayern Munich, and he once even declared the Austrian defender as Munich’s God.

Capable of playing in the centre-back role, David Alaba would fulfil an area where the Reds are currently without any options.

Klopp was forced to play Jordan Henderson in the role with little success as the Reds slumped to their second defeat of the Premier League season.

Bringing in a player like David Alaba who has experience and world-class ability could be a game changer for the Reds.

With the Austrian’s contract expiring in the summer the club could land him on the cheap, just like they did with Thiago.

It is a move which makes sense on a lot of levels. With FSG having shifted their policy in recent years it might just be the case that they will go all out to land a player who they desperately need rather than dithering like previous years.

And if they can poach David Alaba from the European Champions, what a story that would be. It would surely leave a sour taste on Pep Guardiola’s face.
