This is how Liverpool signed their Bundesliga striker.

In the past few weeks Liverpool have struggled with one area of their game in particular. The often effective Robertson and Alexander-Arnold who like to maraud forward have usually succeed in supplying the box with their lethal crosses.

However of late, those crosses have been to no avail.

The Reds have no one to attack them and with club’s playing increasingly deeper lines against Jurgen Klopp’s men it is clear the German needs a different outlet.

But that could very well change in the summer.

Five years ago Liverpool signed 18 year old Taiwo Awoniyi.

The striker has not been able to represent the Reds due to a perpetually elusive work-permit. However, with the Nigerian forward currently excelling in the Bundesliga, Awoniyi might finally get his chance.

A recent report by First Time Finish delves into the details of Taiwo Awoniyi’s transfer.

Through an exclusive interview with Taiwo Awoniyi’s academy coach, Atiba Bankole, the report reveals how the Reds landed the signature of the Nigerian forward.

Atiba Bankole told First Time Finish the following:

"‘Then Liverpool came,’ Atiba remembers. ‘And we knew that was the best club for him.Liverpool scouted him even prior to the U17 World Cup. When we went to speak to them, they gave us a presentation of how they followed him, what their plans were, and you could not resist that. One of the things they showed us was how Taiwo was going to fit into the Liverpool team in about five years,’"

The detail is interesting. Although Liverpool’s plan might have been derailed by a year, however if Taiwo Awoniyi continues to impress in the Bundesliga the Reds might just give him a chance.

Taiwo Awoniyi is suited to Jurgen Klopp’s style of play. The forward is an excellent presser of the ball. He’s also blessed with pace and his height can offer an adequate target for the Reds’ crosses.

On top of that Klopp is believed to be an admirer of the forward.

With Divock Origi set to leave and the pandemic cutting budgets, Liverpool could save a lot of money on signing a back-up forward by giving Awoniyi a chance instead.

And with the Nigerian still desperate to play for the club according to First Time Finish, there is no doubt Taiwo Awoniyi will do everything he can to make sure he takes his opportunity.

The forward is adored in Berlin having scored in the derby and against opposition like Borussia Dortmund, and he can be the same cult hero at Anfield too.
