Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool are on the cusp of a potential crisis. If it hasn’t already begun. Three games without a single goal scored and scant opportunities created is a dire indictment of just where the Reds stand. The worrying impotence of players like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino has made many Kopites bite their finger with fear.

Top four is now the foremost a priority for the club this season. The title challenge might be out of their depth.

However, if the Reds concentrate on the Champions League it could still become a fruitful campaign.

While much has been noted about the absence of key centre-backs, it’s obvious the front three are also now feeling the impact of that. With teams able to set-up in a low-defensive block and counter quite well without the pace of Van Dijk or Gomes, the opposition leaves very little room for Mane and Salah to dazzle and drive at their opponents.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are all underperforming for Liverpool.

The lack of space has undoubtedly contributed to Salah and Mane not being at their best.

But another perhaps more dire and underlying issue could also be a major cause for concern.

The Reds have always utilised their full-backs ability to put the ball into dangerous areas in the opposition’s penalty area.

But more than ever, it’s becoming clear and obvious that the high volume are crosses are making the Reds one dimensional.

If they are to persist the way they are, they would need a different option.

Jurgen Klopp has the solution right in front of his eyes.

According to First Time Finish, the Reds’ loanee Taiwo Awoniyi has one of the best headed goal ratios per 90 in Europe’s top five leagues.

The Nigerian forward is brawny and he has the height to attack headers. He could offer the physicality needed for the Reds to combat the low-block defences. A different avenue to the tried and tested method of having Firmino, Salah and Mane who are all under six foot to attack crosses.

On top of that according to his coach Atiba Bankole speaking with First Time Finish, Taiwo Awoniyi ‘really really wants to play for Liverpool.’

A great presser (no forward in the Bundesliga has a better success rate at pressing) and a team player, the Nigerian would fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system seamlessly.
