The Liverpool boss has delivered his verdict.

Injuries have been the prevalent theme of Naby Keita‘s Liverpool career. Multiple muscle problems and other niggles have prevented the Guinean midfielder from taking flight and ascending to the top echelons of the Premier League.

When fit Naby Keita is the best midfielder in the league. Without any question mark.

Without his the Reds struggle.

More from Rush The Kop

The Guinean is excellent at bringing the Reds through transitional phases. He can break down defences by driving at them and taking players on. He’s also capable of threading passes through them at pace.

There’s no wonder the Reds thrived on the pitch when Naby Keita played against Crystal Palace this season and helped them to mastermind a 7-0 victory.

In his absence the goal’s have dried up, and it’s led to supporters wishing for the return of their tricky number eight.

And it seems according to Jurgen Klopp, Keita is edging closer to a return.

Speaking in his press conference via the club’s official website, Klopp said the following:

"“Naby is not ready for involvement. It’s not a big thing; it’s a little bit like with other players in the past when they came back from injuries and then because of the amount of games and situation in the squad they had to play. Then a little injury happened again. Now we just had to put on the brake and say, ‘Let’s settle it properly.’ In the moment we have alternatives in midfield, so we really try to give him all the time he needs to get 100 per cent fit. That’s the situation, so no, he is not in contention for Sunday.”"

The positive news is that the club are biding their time with Naby Keita. It’s important not to rush him back and risk aggravating his niggles.

One can only hope the Guinean can put his injuries behind him and really kick on upon his return.

The positive omen is that Naby Keita has never enjoyed such a horrid continuous spell on the side-lines.

So given time, and patience Keita has the potential to recover and keep himself fit.

With more of a regular run in the team, the Guinean will also settle into the rhythm and the pace of the game which could take him on another level.

Having Naby Keita in peak condition and in his best form could make the Reds unstoppable once again.

There is no doubt Jurgen Klopp will be praying for it.

But the Guinean still has time to justify his high price tag and prove he is worthy of the famous number eight shirt. One Steven Gerrard was very content on handing over to the midfielder upon his arrival at Anfield highlighting Naby Keita’s talent.
