The Norwegian ace is currently attracting attention from every major club in Europe, including Liverpool. But with the Reds’ board’s reluctance to budge from a stringent budget it’s unlikely that they would ever make a big money for the Borussia Dortmund star.

Even though Erling Haaland could be the perfect option for the Reds and solve their misery going forward, offer an alternative physical presence in the box against low block defences too.

But Jurgen Klopp may have an alternative option to the goal-machine. A striker who has been idly on the books at Anfield for over half a decade.

Taiwo Awoniyi.

Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp need an alternative.

Speaking on the Blood Red Podcast via HITC when asked German football expert Constantin Eckner compared Awoniyi to Borussia Dortmund’s Norwegian forward.

Eckner said the following:

"“That’s a hard one to come up with a good comparison, I mean, in a way he reminds me of Erling Haaland with the runs he makes behind the line. Of course, he’s nowhere near the level of Erling Haaland, but just his style is somewhat similar, and he’s a good, not great poacher inside the box, he’s a decent finisher at least.”"

The comparison is a promising one for Reds supporters who have not watched the Nigerian ace in action.

Taiwo Awoniyi has been a revelation in Union Berlin this season and has already registered 8 goals and assists for the Bundesliga outfit.

Considering the lack of opportunities Union create and their playing style those are impressive figures.

In the matches Awoniyi has started this season Union Berlin have scored 20 goals, so to have been involved in almost half of those goals directly is an impressive feat for the Nigerian.

When you consider he has only started 13 games the numbers become even more eye catching.

Speaking to First Time Finish, Taiwo Awoniyi’s close advisor, Atiba Bankole revealed that the Nigerian still ‘really, really wants to play’ for the Reds.

The report also goes onto claim that Jurgen Klopp himself is an admirer of the forward.

Awoniyi could be the natural replacement for Divock Origi who has been misfiring this season. Unlike the Belgian, Taiwo Awoniyi is good at putting a defensive shift in which is more suited to Klopp’s style of play.

Of course comparisons to Erling Haaland are far fetched, but the Reds could have a decent player in Taiwo Awoniyi. One who could become a valuable option for them and an astute alternative when Klopp needs to change things up.

One thing is for certain, the Nigerian has a real shot at getting his chance at Anfield is he continues his momentum.
