There were probably a few furrowed eyebrows and batted eyelids when Liverpool announced the signing of Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton. The Portuguese had produced on paper at least nowhere near the level one would expect for a signing of his worth.
However, all those doubts and criticism have been dully cast away.
Diogo Jota has established himself as an integral part of the Reds’ squad. He’s become a cult favourite at Anfield overnight.

And in his absence the Reds have struggled.
Jota was Klopp’s trump card and it is clear the German manager needs him back as fast as possible.
Liverpool need Diogo Jota back in the team.
Diogo Jota has the potential to be the antidote to the Reds’ problems. Under Klopp, Liverpool played some of their best football when they had a front four of Firmino, Mane, Salah and Coutinho. Now with Jota coming in that same sort of free-flowing football can be replicated.
Yes the defensive crisis at the back is concerning and yes Jota still has to prove himself even more. An impressive start is just the beginning but the Portuguese attacker needs to maintain it.
However, a lot can hinge on the success of the club’s season just on the availability of Jota.
If the Portuguese continues his impressive form, he could become one of the Reds’ best players.
The injury which has put a dent in Jota’s season thankfully seems to be coming to an end.
According to the Liverpool Echo Diogo Jota is expected to be back in early February and he could be ready for the all important Champions League tie against RB Leipzig.
With the Reds not firing in the Premier League, the Champions League could be their saviour.
It will be Jota’s first experience of UCL knockout football, and it promises to be a thrilling encounter.
More important, there is hope that Jota’s return will help the Reds front free and lighten their load. As well as to motivate them to perform better with the fear of being dropped a tangible option.
One will hope the Portuguese returns with the same fire and venom as before.
Klopp’s problems could be alleviated just by that.
How highly do you rate Diogo Jota?
