Liverpool have been handed an incredible new Diogo Jota update as they ponder ways to break this spell of bad form.

The football world laughed when Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards splurged £40.23 million on the Portuguese international from Wolves, but nobody is laughing now.

For a start, nobody expected someone who had been good for Wolves but wasn’t their most fancied; people were certainly talking more about Raul Jimenez or Adama Traore.

Liverpool need Diogo Jota

The move took people by surprise a bit, and they stayed surprised at the size of the impact Jota made on his arrival. Five goals in nine Premier League games will do that to a fanbase.

Since his injury, it does appear as if he’s been badly missed. The different runs, the finishing ability, and the little bit of something different he offers Klopp is invaluable, and we could see that back on the pitch soon.

James Pearce, who works for The Athletic, said that the Portugal star should be back in training soon – as Empire of the Kop reported.

The invisible man Naby Keita should also be back shortly, and that could provide a spark of life to a moribund midfield, although past history has taught us never to take Keita playing football for granted.

That loss to Manchester City basically sealed our fate in the Premier League, and focus must now shift to those top four places.

If Liverpool drops out of the Champions League, we can kiss those big signings goodbye and we can kiss our constant improvement goodbye.

Jota’s return should help with that. He’ll provide a confidence boost, an extra threat, and some elite ability to turn to if Klopp needs someone to change the game.

Pearce didn’t specify a date or give more information other than that, but it feels like we’re finally at the end of this awful injury saga.
