‘An Aldi Shaqiri’ Some Liverpool fans aren’t keen on Serie A star
Some Liverpool fans aren’t keen on a Serie A star that would be available for nothing in the summer.
We’ve seen how the team has struggled to break down low blocks this season as Burnley and then Brighton performed perfect smash ‘n grabs at Anfield.
Both bottom-dwellers beat the Reds 1-0 in Merseyside thanks to Jurgen Klopp’s inability to get Liverpool to dance to any sort of coherent tune.
Liverpool could consider Hakan Calhanoglu
With Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold struggling for fluency this campaign and a midfield as dour as Mrs Brown’s Boys, our front three have been feeding off scraps.
Would AC Milan’s playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu make a difference? With nine assists in 18 Serie A games this season, the Turkish international has been in fine form since his move to Itlay in 2017.
Milan has got the best out of the talented attacker. 47 assists and 29 goals in 154 appearances for the San Siro giants is an excellent return, which makes it all the stranger that the two parties appear to be at a contract impasse.

Jurgen Klopp should swoop for the out-of-contract star
Football Italia wrote that talks were opened between Calhanoglu’s agent in December, but it’s all gone quiet on that front. The two parties are nowhere near an agreement, said the report, as the Turk wants €6 million a year but Milan will only stretch to €3.5 million.
Despite his clear attacking talents, some Liverpool fans have described the AC wizard as ‘an Aldi Xherdan Shaqiri’ and not worth the time.
At 27, Calhanoglu would be an extremely smart move. If things worked well, Liverpool would be guaranteed his finest years. If not, Michael Edwards would be able to move the playmaker on for a profit within 24 months.
One thing that could hold back the deal is his style of play. If Klopp persists with the 4-3-3, there may be no room for Calhanoglu in that midfield – even when Gini Wijnaldum moves on or James Milner retires.

A change to 4-2-3-1, a formation the manager loved during his time at Borussia Dortmund, could hand Calganoglu a place behind the most advanced forward.
