There is a storm brewing at Anfield. Discontent around the team, poor form and incurring financial damages have left Liverpool in an uncertain and unstable position. A Champions League spot seems to be slipping away from the Reds’ grasp and the future has never looked so bleak.

Since Jurgen Klopp has taken over, the Reds have always been on an upward trajectory. For the first time with the German under the helm, Liverpool are looking like they are on the decline.

Yes injury problems around the squad have been a major issue, and the Reds have not been the most fortunate. However, the current situation is surely a sign for the need to rebuild the squad at Anfield.

To forge a younger and fresher team.

Liverpool need to freshen their squad.

At the forefront of the re-shaping will be the defence. The Reds need to bolster their options and find younger alternatives to their current options. Ones who are less injury prone too.

Ezri Konsa fits the bill perfectly.

And according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Reds are keeping a close eye on the Aston Villa defender with an interest to bring him in to the club in the summer.

Earlier this season rumours floated about Ezri Konsa and how he was yet to have been dribbled past, a statistic which earnt him comparisons to Virgil Van Dijk.

At Liverpool the Englishman could form a formidable partnership with the Reds’ Dutch ace. On top of that he can also reunite with his former academy teammate Joe Gomez from their Charlton days.

Ezri Konsa has the strength and the pace to suit Jurgen Klopp’s style of play. He also has the aerial threat and ability and the physicality to compliment Virgil Van Dijk.

Of course any potential fee would be a steep one with Aston Villa unwilling to let go off their best players. Their reluctance to sell Jack Grealish last summer is a perfect example.

So the Reds will have to fight to land Ezri Konsa and based on the January transfer dealings you would not back the club to sanction a hefty move.

But with Michael Edwards in charge you just never know.

This is why not making the Champions League could be devastating for the Reds. dark. Next
