Some Liverpool fans are loving how the ‘generational’ Curtis Jones managed to control the midfield against RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Jones has experienced his breakthrough season at the Reds, drawing favourable comparisons with some leading stars in the game.

The 20-year-old has been keeping more established players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out of the side and has made 26 appearances across all competitions, five in the Champions League.

Liverpool have another gem with Curtis Jones

Jones was picked to start against Leipzig on Tuesday night as he replaced James Milner, who limped out of the loss to Leicester City.

And he proceeded to play with maturity, composure and control beyond his tender years. When he’s at his best, Jones can drive forward and create chances, as well as providing a defensive screen with his tenacious style of football.

The youngster was living his best life against Leipzig, and some Liverpool fans couldn’t help but notice as he proceeded to dictate play and control the game against much more experienced opposition.

With Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita out of the picture due to form and fitness, it makes such a big difference when there’s a player like Jones in the side who can provide energy and teeth from the midfield three.

Curtis Jones brings the fire

When Jurgen Klopp picks Milner, Thiago and GIni Wijnaldum, things can feel a little bit passive, a little bit pedestrian and a little bit pass-y.

Jones changes things a little bit, as he changed things against Leipzig. If he keeps going at this rate, the club might have to abandon any future transfer plans they might have to reshape that midfield.

It was a massive nod to the type of influence that Jones was having on the game that Klopp decided to take Thiago off instead of the Scouser when the manager introduced Oxlade-Chamberlain to the game.

Wijnaldum looks set to depart in the summer, but performances like this have shown Klopp that he can trust in youth and open up a pathway for Jones into the first team on a more consistent level.
