Liverpool have been handed a devastating Jordan Henderson injury update days after he limped out of the clash with Everton on Saturday.

The Reds’ skipper walked away from the Merseyside derby before half time as he hurt his abductor in the vain attempt to stop Everton from beating Liverpool.

Henderson has been playing as a centre-back after cruel injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, but his knock leaves Jurgen Klopp short on options and fans short on hope.

Liverpool will miss Jordan Henderson

As captain, the former Sunderland man has been vital. There’s a serious void of leadership when the midfielder isn’t playing and that’s another attribute that’ll be missing while Henderson is absent.

Ozan Kabak has just joined the club but will be partnered by someone new against Sheffield United, which won’t help his adaption process.

Kabak will be without his makeshift defensive partner Henderson for up to five games, said the Daily Mail. The newspaper reported that he could miss games against the Blades, Chelsea and Wolves – he could even be away for the defining leg of the RB Leipzig match in the Champions League.

Liverpool problems continue

Injuries have ravaged Klopp’s plans to attack the title. This team was top of the table at Christmas but has gone down like a fart in an elevator in 2021.

Four Premier League games have come and gone without a victory, with the surprise 2-0 win over Leipzig sandwiched in the middle.

What will happen to the side now? Henderson provides leadership but also an emergency presence at the back – now Klopp will need to find a new on-field leader as well as a partner for Kabak.

Will Davies step in, or will the manager turn to Ben Davies, Rhys Williams or Nat Phillips? There’s only one little silver lining and that is that the next game is against Sheffield United – the league’s worst defence.
