Liverpool are plotting an ambitious £56 million raid for a potential Sadio Mane replacement.

This great team is in its final moments. Every hegemony needs to be refreshed once in a while, and the best empires weren’t afraid to make tough choices.

While we love and cherish Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Gini Wijnaldum and the rest, we all know that some of them will need to be moved in sooner rather than later. It sucks, but it’s how era-defying sides stay ahead of the curve.

Liverpool are planning for a Sadio Mane free future

As Mane, Firmino and Salah all edge towards their 30s at the same time, it’s clear that one or more of them will have to be replaced in order for Liverpool to compete for the next five years.

A report from Spain seems to indicate that Jurgen Klopp and sporting director Michael Edwards are ready to make their first move in a chain that sets off Klopp’s first Liverpool refresh.

La Razon have written that the Reds want to trigger the release clause of Sevilla’s star Lucas Ocampos. It would cost £56 million to bring the Argentine to Anfield, said the report, and the La Liga side could be ready to sell.

Ocampos has been another Monchi success story. 24 goals and nine assists from 74 appearances could land Sevilla with a huge payday just two years after his £13.5 million arrival from Marseille.

Lucas Ocampos – a career fulfilled?

Ocampos has had a weird career. He’s been highly rated for a long time and moved from Argentina to Europe nearly 10 years ago with Monaco. Back in 2012 the Ligue 1 side splashed the cashed and made an £11.7 million move to sign him from River Plate.

Loan moves to Marseille, Genoa and AC Milan never really delivered much until Marseille took Ocampos permanently. He enjoyed better times in France, scoring 27 goals and setting up 15 assists in 132 games.

Sevilla sniffed out a bargain, helped the player to show his real potential and could now turn it into serious cash as Liverpool continue to scout for Sadio Mane’s replacement.
