If anything positive can be dissected from Liverpool’s wholly negative season that will be the impact of one of their surprising summer acquisitions.

Many batted eyelids when Michael Edwards and Jurgen Klopp moved to secure the services of Diogo Jota in the summer. After all the Portuguese forward was not even a regular starter at Wolverhampton and struggled to fight himself into the reckoning towards the latter stages of last season.

However, the move paid dividends.

More from Rush The Kop

Diogo Jota started life at Anfield with one giant exuberant burst. The Reds forward was unstoppable at times and he offered the rejuvenation in the attacking line-up which the Reds craved so badly.

Liverpool and Klopp need their new talisman back.

In his absence it has been no surprised that Klopp and his side have struggled. Jota’s extra goals and his ability to impact games from the bench has been the one factor which has held Jurgen Klopp’s side back.

Without Diogo Jota the club have no one to call-up on from the bench. Shaqiri and Divock Origi have produced pitiful performances in attempts to try and fill the void left behind by Diogo Jota.

However, soon Klopp might not need to rely on his fringe players.

Diogo Jota has at least returned to first team training via the Telegraph giving the German a major boost.

Of course the Reds will be reluctant to rush him back too soon. And he might take a while to regain his match fitness but if Diogo Jota can rediscover the form which he sprang into life at Anfield, the Reds will certainly be aided by his presence in the team.

One can only hope so.
