Liverpool veteran James Milner has sent fans into a spin with his latest tweet.

When the chips are down, we can always bank on Milly to put some pep in our step. The old man of the Reds team is normally larking about on social media, where he’s developed a sense of humour as dry as the groom’s mouth the morning after a Scouse stag do.

We’ve already seen iconic offerings such as the cutting of grass with scissors and the pun XI, but this time Milner has put smiles on faces with something completely different.

Liverpool have struggled

We make no bones about the fact that Liverpool have struggled. The loss to Everton last weekend hurt badly, but not as bad as the pain inflicted in injured heroes Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Diogo Jota, Jordan Henderson etc etc etc.

If fans of our rivals were calling for last season to come with an asterisk, this one should come with a health warning. No other title winners have had to cope with their entire defence being mowed down after half a season or missing two of their best midfielders, or their best goalkeeper.

But things could be on the mend.

More from Rush The Kop

Jota has reported back to full training, and Milner shared pictures with his 1.4 million Twitter followers of the Portugal star back on the grass. But there was also a surprise.

The green shoots of recovery?

Because Virgil van Dijk, so recently ensconced in his Dubai recovery hub, is back on Merseyside and back on the turf. It looks like he might be training by himself, but to even see van Dijk in the Liverpool training gear with the boys is mighty encouraging.

Hopefully, this team can keep the good news rolling with a victory over Sheffield United at the end of the month.

Klopp’s men take on the Blades on the 28th, and even though they have the worst attack in the league, Liverpool won’t be able to take anything for granted.

With Henderson out and Fabinho’s fitness uncertain, we may see Klopp turn to Ben Davies to make his Liverpool debut.
