Liverpool have provided a cryptic update on the Jordan Henderson injury situation.

The skipper hurt his groin during the disappointing loss to Everton and was taken off before half time. This left the side rudderless, leaderless and with another new centre-back combination.

Henderson is our voice on the field and we always struggle when he’s not around, so the cryptic news that’s been posted from the official club website doesn’t help things.

Fabinho could miss The Blades game and that means the inexperienced Ozan Kabak could partner with Rhys Williams or Nat Phillips for this next vital clash.

We’ll be counting down the days until Henderson is back on the pitch, but that might not happen until after the March international break. The former Sunderland starlet will go for an operation, and the club hasn’t provided a due date for his return.

"They wrote: “Following further assessment with the club’s medical team, Henderson has successfully had a corrective procedure carried out on the adductor injury. He will begin a rehabilitation programme immediately.“No specific timescale is being placed upon his return; however, the 30-year-old is ruled out initially until after the March international break.”"

Liverpool must be Sheffield United, and although they have the worst defence in the league, they can’t be taken for granted. Chris Wilder will be licking his lips at the thought of sending his boys out to face a central defence that has less than 10 top-flight games between them.

This means Klopp has a massive decision to make before the game on Sunday, and he might have to keep making these big calls for the rest of the season.

If Liverpool can get Fabinho back in action, he’ll be forced to slot back into defence – probably with Kabak – but that means those midfield issues might persist.

Klopp’s engine room has looked stilted, ponderous and lacks a cutting edge. With the full-backs tired and lacking in energy, the onus has shifted to those three to provide the ammunition to the forward line.

With Henderson, and with Fabinho at the back, things are going to be even harder moving forward.
