This summer Liverpool will be embarking on a mission to rebuild the club from top to bottom. After an abysmal campaign not aided by misfortune, it is clear a change is needed in the atmosphere of the club and reinforcements are a must.
One area where the club will absolutely have to strengthen is in the striker department. Roberto Firmino’s form has continued to dip year in year out and the Reds are in dire need of a proper number nine forward who can carry and lead the line, but also has the energy and the work-rate to defend from the front.

That candidate might be Jonathan David according to The Athletic‘s James Pearce.
Liverpool need a new Roberto Firmino.
The Lille forward certainly fits the profile.
Jonathan David has the pace and the physicality as well as the technical capabilities which could thrive in the Premier League.
According to Pearce, David was on the Reds’ three men shortlist last summer meaning the club are keeping a close eye on the 21 year old who has finally blossomed into life in France after a difficult start having scored 7 goals in his last 10 matches in the league.
Hailing from New York, and having grown up in Haiti, Jonathan David has had a fascinating journey to Europe as detailed by First Time Finish through a series of interviews with his youth coaches.
Despite developing in North America Jonathan David never played for a professional club in North America. Instead he rejected the lure of MLS academies and bided his time to make the move to Europe.
The Canadian international is selfless like Firmino in his style of play. But he has the added pace and physicality which could further trouble defences. On top of that he can also make runs in behind defences which the Brazilian has not really done a lot of in his career.
Of course Lille will not want to lose their prized asset however with Michael Edwards at the helm there will always be hope.
David could be the right move for the club. He is someone who will only get better and better and playing alongside the likes of Salah and Mane could bring the best out of him.
Would you be happy with the signing of Jonathan David?
