Liverpool’s season has gone horribly awry. The truth be told there is not much to salvage from it. The top four is looking highly unlikely and even a place in Europe’s other elite competition, the Europa League, might not be guaranteed.

Instead, the most likely destination for Liverpool if they are to compete in Europe next season, is looking like the UEFA Europa Conference League.

The inaugural competition is set to kick-start next season and will feature countries from more obscure territories in Europe in order to inspire more competition and help smaller clubs gain more revenue.

Liverpool might not be the only big club in the competition if they are to qualify. Germany, Spain, Italy and France will also have one team from their top divisions competing for the chance to win the competition for the first time.

Liverpool could make history.

And while some have regarded this as a disaster for the club. There could be positives to draw away from competing in the competition for the Reds.

First of all, it would give Klopp and his men the chance to win another trophy. And even more so a historic trophy that no one has ever won before. It could be a momentous occasion and one that will once again put the reds down in the history books.

On top of that in the group stages the Reds are likely to face some minnows, clubs they might have never played against. This could be an exciting prospect. And it could also provide Klopp the opportunity to play some of the  Reds’ young players and give them a taste of competitive football.

So unless a miracle happens and the Reds lift number seven in Istanbul at the end of the season, do not despair the UEFA Conference League could still offer the club new opportunities.
