When it comes to big transfers from the Eredvisie, history favours the bold. From Ronaldo at PSV, to Kluivert at Ajax, and of course the one Liverpool fans will remember the most is Luis Suarez.

And as the Reds continue to scour the globe for the player to fix the goal-scoring crisis at the club, they should aim to replicate the same recipe instead.

Roberto Firmino has served the Reds with distinction in his reign so far as the club’s first choice striker. However as the 29 year old nears 30 it is clear his performance levels continue to dip and decline.

One of the Brazilian’s best assets has been his energy, and Firmino has definitely lost an extra turn of pace in the last couple of years.

Jurgen Klopp needs a fresh rejuvenation in the position. Someone young and hungry and with an eye for goal.

Liverpool need a new Roberto Firmino.

Donyell Malen fits the bill perfectly. The PSV forward who had a short stint at Arsenal and developed in Ajax’s academy is all about pace, power and scoring.

He also has the energy of Firmino on the pitch. Malen is constantly on the move and ready to run in behind defences.

Some will say he’s ‘only doing it in the Dutch league’ and for those you only have to point at the record and the history of elite talent to have emerged from the Netherlands over the last decade.

Having already played in England, Malen will know what is required of him which should help in transitioning to the Premier League, especially when it comes to the physicality and the language.

On top of that, his knack for being in the right place at the right time could thrive at Anfield. The Reds have created an ample amount of chances in the past few months which have been missed time and time again.

Malen could be the man to come in and fix that by putting the ball into the back of the net.

The fact that he is still young would fit with FSG strategy too who like to buy assets rather than ready made players who cannot be sold on for profit.
