Al-Ahli has bold plan to replace Liverpool icon (with this forgotten face)

Liverpool legend Roberto Firmino recently left Al-Ahli. Now, the Saudi side wants to replace him with none other than Darwin Nunez.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a Liverpool fan who doesn't hold the fondest memories of Roberto Firmino. Sure, he wasn't the type of attacker who bagged hundreds of goals, but his unique false-nine playing style brought the best out of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

However, the time was right for Firmino to part ways in 2023. He went on to win the AFC Champions League Elite, but is set for a new adventure with Qatari side Al Sadd.

Al-Ahli want to replace Roberto Firmino with another Liverpool signing

This leaves Al-Ahli in a position of wanting to replace Roberto Firmino and to do so, they've seemingly turned their attention to Liverpool yet again.

The Saudi club, backed by the Public Investment Fund, are now considering a move for Darwin Nunez. No official bid has been made just yet, but the papers are saying that a bid is at least "considered" at this stage.

Interestingly, Al-Ahli is one of the most exciting teams in the Saudi Pro League right now. They are big investors, signing key names. Last season, Roberto Firmino was playing alongside the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Ivan Toney, both names that Premier League fans should recognise.

Now that Firmino has packed his bags, though, he could be replaced by yet another Liverpool player.

It's probably time for Liverpool to sell

It's fair to say that comparisons between Darwin Nunez and Roberto Firmino are difficult to come by. It would be a stretch to even mention them in the same sentece, to be frank.

And that's not necessarily a dig at Darwin. It's more a testament to Roberto Firmino, who left behind a frankly irreplaceable legacy.

So, Liverpool won't miss Darwin as much as they missed Firmino. But the Uruguay international will still be sent away with nothing but respect. He tried, and that's all the Kop could ask for.

Even if the move to Saudi Arabia doesn't materialise, it's likely that Darwin will leave Liverpool anyway. With all of the attacking reinforcements made already, he's down the pecking order.

His place in the Liverpool roster will only be in further jeopardy if Alexander Isak is signed. The way Liverpool's spending is going, it wouldn't be too much of a surprise. Besides, Liverpool's attention seems to be on freeing up space in the squad.
