There were some very important consequences following an intense ending to the Merseyside Derby.

The ending of the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park is something that will be remembered for a very long time.

A 98th minute game tying goal from a towering central defender via a stunning volley would have been enough for it to be talked about in the years to come. The Everton fans exploding into rapture as the points were shared on a tense night drove home that point.

If things had ended there, we would not be short of talking points from the match. However, as it were, the final whistle was the precursor to even more chaos on pitch.

Jones Defends Reds' honor

Curtis Jones, who had come on as a second half substitute, was understandably frustrated after watching his side give away the victory in the dying embers of the match.

So, it was too much for the local lad when he saw the powerhouse Everton midfielder Doucoure, going straight to the traveling Liverpool fans to revel in their misery.

A pushing and shoving match then erupted as both sides saw several players flying in and even a bottle being thrown onto the pitch. It was the kind of intensity you'd expect from a Derby, but preferably that would come during the actual match itself.

Jones received a second yellow card, giving him red, and the same went for Doucoure who was all smiles afterwards as if his side had just won the Premier League on the night.

This also means Curtis will miss the next match which isn't ideal, but you love his passion to defend the badge at all times.

Arne Slot sees red of his own

It's not very often we see the Dutchman lose his cool at anytime. His calm demeanor is one of the endearing aspects of his coaching style and it has clearly served him well in his new role this season.

However, following one of the more contentious derbies in recent memory, Slot had seen enough with the frustration of conceding late and seeing his players hacked all night long, the boss wanted a word with Michael Oliver.

He got plenty of words in as he was clearly not satisfied with the answers he was getting. For him to get a straight red though means something must have been elevated in the messaging because that is a big jump.

Tensions were high all night and in addition to Slot, his assistant Sipke Hulshoff also saw Red which means the coaching staff will be thinner than expected when we face Wolves next.

It was mayhem on the pitch all night long and it only amplifed once the match completed. Liverpool dropped points and now lost their manager and a key player in the aftermath. Rough night indeed.
