Liverpool defender Joe Gomez picked up an injury while playing for England yesterday and the fans are taking out their frustrations on the international break.
After the final whistle in Liverpool’s 5-0 victory against Watford last week fans took to social media to praise the win and pray for the following week. Not because Liverpool had a crucial game but because the international break was coming. Please God no injuries!
Well the prayers were not answered. England international Joe Gomez limped off the pitch during the Three Lions clash with Virgil van Dijk’s Holland within the first ten minutes.
There is no official explanation for his injury but it appears to be an ankle knock. The severity of the injury is also uncertain at this point but it isn’t thought to be season ending. Most ankle sprains have a 4-6 week recovery time. The worry would be if it was a high ankle sprain like the one that ended Rhian Brewster’s season.

It is frustrating for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Along with his medical staff, they have done an incredible of rotation and recovery this season. This has led to the squad being almost fully fit in the middle of March. An impressive feat!
The injury on international duty seems typical for Reds who also had to lose Sadio Mane for six weeks with a hamstring injury earlier in the season that he picked up while playing for Senegal.
It is also a worry for the player who looks set to make the plane to Russia as part of England’s World Cup squad. Joe Gomez got the nod to start as part of an experimental back three with John Stones and Kyle Walker yesterday.
Gareth Southgate opting for ball playing defenders ahead of more traditional lumpers like Alfie Mawson and Harry Maguire.
