No.1: Something Special

Real Madrid will never go longer than a season or two without silverware. If it is about volume of trophies then you go to Spain. Almost no question. But it is not quite that simple. While the weakness of La Liga creates opportunities for trophies, it also has a propensity for high turnover.

Because of that it is hard to become a ‘legend’ at a club like that. They are disappointed if they don’t win the league and the European Cup every year. One error here or there can decide a season. A simple error in El Clásico can hand Barcelona the title.

The three Champions League titles in a row is the peak. They will not repeat next year. They have an aging squad who were comfortably beaten by Barca to La Liga this season. Then they happened to walk into a world of (malicious) luck against Liverpool; an injury to Mohamed Salah and a concussed goalie handed them the cup.

Liverpool are on the verge of something special. Not just trophies but exceptional football. And not just exciting attacking play but also a team spirit and sense of camaraderie unlike anywhere else in football.

He would have heard from international teammate Roberto Firmino about how good life is at Anfield working for Klopp. His countryman Fabinho has just signed up as well. Alisson could complete a Brazilian trio at Liverpool.
