Liverpool are in need of attacking reinforcements and could reignite their interest in RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner as a summer transfer target.
Liverpool need to pick up their heads and move on to new transfer targets after the collapse of the Nabil Fekir deal due to an underlying knee injury. The Frenchman was the club’s top priority this summer and Jurgen Klopp will be devastated not secure his man.
There is now huge speculation as to where Liverpool will turn. The most immediate and available options are Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City and Mario Goetze from Borussia Dortmund. The Swiss international is available for just £13.5 million with a relegation release clause. Goetze wants to reunite with Klopp and is not needed at BVB.

However they are both primarily midfielders who could at times rotate into the attack. What Liverpool need most of all is an attacker who could potentially play in midfield. That was going to be Fekir and is why I think we will see one forward come to the club this summer.
Liverpool would like Goetze teammate and long-term target Christian Pulisic but his price will be prohibitive. Dortmund would likely demand £80 million for a player who has flashed incredible talent but not regularly been as productive as his potential would suggest.
Liverpool have players who can cover the wide forwards – Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to an extent. Both Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are first teamers who have played there and thrived.
The Reds also have good young talent in Harry Wilson and Ben Woodburn who could develop steadily next season. The priority needs to be a player who can play in the ‘number 9’ role and cover Roberto Firmino adequately. That will take a sizable transfer and a big named player.

They should look to RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner as the man who can get the goals when Firmino is injured or rested. He has been flirting with a move to the Premier League and will surely be impressed with Liverpool’s Champions League run this season. That would be the best use of the planned funds for Fekir.
