Liverpool have been pried out of a big move and will not be making a bid for one World Cup final midfielder after being quoted £75 million.

Now the World Cup is over we can expect the transfer craziness to hit fever pitch. Clubs are looking to cash in on their player’s rising stock after good showings in the tournament. One club hoping to make bank on such a player is Real Madrid. They are looking to shift midfielder Mateo Kovacic for £75 million; that is too much for Liverpool to consider.

The Croatian star didn’t play as many minutes in the World Cup as he would have wanted after being used primarily as a substitute and suffering a shoulder injury. Regardless, Real are hoping Croatia’s run to the final will be enough to spark a huge bid.

Liverpool have been linked to the playmaker for years. Those rumors were reignited after the initial collapse of the deal to bring Nabil Fekir to Anfield. The recent speculation has not caught traction with reliable sources and the news of Kovacic’s valuation will surely rule out any thought of Liverpool making a transfer bid.

Jurgen Klopp appears happy with his options in the midfield after the arrival of Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri this summer. Although Fekir can play central midfield the lure of the French World Cup winner is that he can also play in all three attacking positions. It is very unlikely that Liverpool will sign another central midfielder; especially for £75 million.

Instead the focus will be on a goalkeeper, center back and Fekir or an alternative versatile attacker. I would be shocked if there were more than three more additions to the squad before the transfer window closes in on August 9th.

Liverpool promised fans that there would be very little activity in the transfer market until after the World Cup. They were true to their word with only Shaqiri arriving during the tournament; 10 days after his side’s elimination from the competition.
