Liverpool are tearing through the transfer market after a flurry of activity spooking Man Utd into panic buying a pair of Bundesliga stars.

Liverpool are on the verge of one record-breaking transfer with another huge deal coming along nicely. And it has the Premier League spooked particularly Manchester United.. Following the news that Liverpool are tying up a deal for Alisson Becker and progressing with Nabil Fekir, it appears Man Utd are going to make a couple of expensive panic buys.

The Independent are reporting that Man Utd are looking to sign Thiago Alcantara and Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich this summer. The pair would cost at least £150 million according to reports.

More from Rush The Kop

Alcantara is 27-years-old and Lewandowski is 29-years old meaning the Old Trafford side would be paying a premium for players already entering the end of their prime years.

The move smacks of desperation as Man Utd are paranoid about falling behind Jurgen Klopp’s impressive Liverpool side. They are already flagging far behind Manchester City. The signings of Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant (lol) have done little to convince anyone that United will be able to even reach second place next year.

Liverpool are going to break the world record for a goalkeeper once Alisson Becker has signed for £66 million later this week. That deal looks nailed on barring unforeseen circumstances. There have also been reports today that Liverpool have picked up the Nabil Fekir negotiations and they are coming along well.

Add that £100+ million of spending to the £100 million already shelled out on Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri and you can see why Man Utd are so afraid of Liverpool next season.

There is of course the small matter of Bayern Munich not wanting to sell their star players. It could well be a long and fruitless summer for United fans with big transfer hopes.
