Liverpool have let another goalkeeper leave Anfield this summer and are letting the position get dangerously thin for the 2018/19 season.

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Liverpool have signed a goalkeeper. He’s a guy named Alisson Becker and he is the Brazilian number one. There was also the small matter of a £63 million world record-breaking transfer fee. But since that deal was completed the Reds have now let THREE goalkeepers leave the club.

First up was Danny Ward. He has been touted to be Liverpool’s number one goalie for this season by Jurgen Klopp only 5 days previously before he moved to Leicester City in the wake of Alisson’s arrival. A fee of £12.5 million is a huge amount for the fourth most experienced goalkeeper at the club.

Then the following day Liverpool released Andy Firth to join Barrow AFC. The obscure stopper only signed a new deal at the club two weeks ago.

Today we learned that 20-year-old goalkeeper Shamal George will spend the 2018/19 season on-loan at Tranmere Rovers.

That’s three gone in a week! It seems near impossible that Liverpool will keep Simon Mignolet around after he lost his place to Loris Karius and Alisson installed as number one. The club can command a decent fee for the experienced stopper.

If that expected move happens that will leave 19-year-old goalie Kamil Grabara as the third choice. He is currently backing up Karius on the pre-season tour of USA. Caoimhin Kelleher is the third option right not in the States. I don’t know who he is either.

There are huge question marks over the mental capacity of Loris Karius to function at the highest level in the near future. After his Champions League debacle and subsequent pre-season errors there is huge risk having him as the only backup to Alisson. We could well see an experienced keeper brought in for additional cover in the last few days of the transfer window.
