Liverpool are positioning themselves ahead of Spurs in the transfer race to grab Borussia Dortmund attacker Christian Pulisic next summer.

These two have been vying for this transfer for a long time. However it is Liverpool who have placed themselves ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Christian Pulisic. The Reds have laid down their marker for Spurs after confirming interest for the winger in the summer of 2019.

The Times have confirmed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would love to add Pulisic to the Champions League finalists. He has been a long time admirer of the American and news that the forward will not extend his current contract at Borussia Dortmund beyond 2020 has opened up the possibility of a transfer before then.

Klopp would like to do that deal now. However the €67 million fee would be prohibitive this summer. The club have already laid out £160 million on Fabinho, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker.

Tottenham Hotspur are quickly fading from being a genuine rival for Liverpool in the transfer window. The Reds have been very successful this summer building on their Champions League run. Spurs are yet to sign a single player and are fighting to keep players such as Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose at the club as they look for more success and money elsewhere.

The Liverpool hierarchy are hoping that his price will decrease next summer with only a year remaining on his contract.

German journalist Raphael Honigstein is speculating that Liverpool could attempt to pull off a deal like they did for Keita from RB Leipzig last year. They would guarantee a premium now to make sure they were ahead of Spurs to sign Pulisic.

It seems highly unlikely that he will be at Anfield this summer, despite what many Reds are hoping. But there is genuine hope in the public moves towards signing him in a year’s time that the club view themselves as the leading contender for the star.
