I think Liverpool will push Manchester City hard this season, and will probably amass enough points to have won the title in most other seasons.

Unfortunately, I think they could ultimately fall just a touch short unless they manage to make another signing before the window closes. This is not to say that we won’t all enjoy the ride and play some great stuff along the way though!

The reality is that to win a title you need things you can’t control to go for you. Liverpool can only control the results of two City games this season. If they get to 100 points again, sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and acknowledge they are simply a great team.

What is important to remember for Liverpool fans is that failing to win the league is not a sign we have had a poor season. Competing for major honors, which we now are, is extremely hard. Very fine margins make the difference and we’ll need a touch of luck in our favor.

Regarding the rest of the top four, I think Chelsea could rebound this season. They are a strange club that can go from Champions to written off and back again each season.

On the surface, things look somewhat stale there at the moment, perhaps due to some recent signings being underwhelming. However, Maurizio Sarri will likely have them playing a higher tempo pressing style that could see off lower opposition provided the team adopt it quickly.

I’m torn on Spurs purely because I think they will start slowly this season following the World Cup. They are also constantly one injury away (Harry Kane) from imploding. They could easily lose out to neighbors Arsenal should the Gunners attack fire on all cylinders.

Speaking of imploding, the writing is on the wall for Jose Mourinho and Manchester United. He has already started his tried and tested 3rd year ritual of insulting players and club hierarchy in an attempt to paper over the reasons for quitting.

The real reason is his teams play football that is now outdated. He’s realized he will struggle to catch the likes of City and Liverpool without drastic changes.
