Liverpool will be encouraged to hear that transfer target Adrien Rabiot has set up a move next summer by rejecting a new contract at PSG.

After a long summer of transfer speculation let’s have a break for a few months and concentrate on the… what was that juicy rumor?!? The transfer window may be shut for the next four months but there is still news to process. The latest is that Liverpool target Adrien Rabiot has rejected the latest contract offer from PSG.

The silky midfielder has a deal that runs out next summer and his refusal to extend in Paris greatly increases the chances that he will be available on a free transfer in June 2019.

Known for his smooth passing and effortless class on the ball he would be a very different option for Jurgen Klopp than the high energy intensity of his current crop. Rabiot is no slouch with work rate but he could offer some calm possession football in certain matchups or game situations.

The good news for Reds is that he has already given multiple indications of wanting to move to Merseyside. He gave an interview last year where mentioned wanting to move to the Premier League; listing Liverpool as his favorite club in England.

Then during Liverpool’s Champions League run last season he put up a pick on his Instagram story of Anfield singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. It was accompanied by him saying “Anfield” with a bunch of heart-eyed emojis.

If Adrien Rabiot was only available for a fee then I am not sure Jurgen Klopp would be interested after investing heavily in Fabinho and Naby Keita this summer.

However a free transfer changes that immensely. The Reds will have almost the full season without Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana will likely continue his decline. A move for Rabiot on a free transfer will make a lot of sense for Liverpool.
