Liverpool are nearing in on the completion of another transfer as Ragnar Klavan looks set to leave Anfield.

Italian publication Calciomercato has reported that Cagliari want to sign Klavan on a permanent deal – which is close to completion.

The report has indicated that the Serie A side will play €2 million for the Estonian, who was the first footballer from his country to play in the Champions League.

Despite failing to bring in another defender during the summer transfer window, it appears as if Jurgen Klopp is willing to weaken his squad by allowing Klavan to depart. Despite arriving as a back-up option, the 32-year-old has still played 39 league games in two seasons.

Klopp’s familiarity with the Bundesliga and the former Augsburg player is what prompted the German to make Klavan one of his first signings, which went through for a small fee of €5 million.

But Liverpool now have just four central defenders to call on: Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren – and if things get messy with injuries it could wreck Klopp’s plans for the season very quickly.

Fans will undoubtedly be sad to see the Estonian leave, as he quickly established himself as a bit of a cult figure. Over his two seasons at Anfield, Klavan has been turned into some incredible memes, performed crazy-good trick shots for his Instagram audience and sent commentators in his homeland absolutely mental.

But now it seems as if the good times are over and the defender is off to make another set of supporters his own. Klavan always gave 100% on the pitch and appeared to be a model professional, he probably wasn’t going to feature a lot this season and so the deal does make sense if you consider those terms.
