David Moyes thinks Liverpool were better with Dossena, Riera & Babel
By David Gate
Liverpool are not in title contention and they were better with Andrea Dossena, Albert Riera & Ryan Babel according to the spewings of David Moyes
They’re rattled. All the rival fans, biassed pundits and ex-footballers who have a grudge against Liverpool Football Club are struggling to come to the terms that the Reds are back and better than any point in the Premier League era.
This has had a particularly strange effect on David Moyes. As an ex-Everton and ex-Manchester United manager he has more reason to hate Liverpool than most. Add to that the numerous times his sides got eviscerated by the Reds and you can understand his bitterness.

However he is also paid by Sky Sports to chat intelligently about football. Apparently he is unable to do that where Liverpool are concerned.
When asked about Liverpool’s title credentials he downplays the quality of Jurgen Klopp’s side. His claim is that the Reds were better when he was Everton and facing Rafa Benitez in the opposing dugout.
He lists Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres as players who are better than the current crop. While that quartet was outstanding the squad of that time also gave major playing minutes to Albert Riera, Andrea Dossena and Ryan Babel.
While I think none of those three were atrocious they were also symbolic of Rafa Benitez’ nearly men of the 2008/09 season. The core of the team – that quartet with Sami Hyypia, Jamie Carragher and Pepe Reina – were outstanding but there were always two or three first team players who were below par.
The current side is stacked. The bench is full of internationals. Naby Keita is being rotated and Fabinho can’t even get a look in. Also this side is seven wins from seven off the back of a run to the Champions League final.
Davey Moyes talking up the Anfield sides of the past has way more to do with favorable revisions of his own career rather than any objective assessment.
