It is only March and we are already talking about the transfer plans of Liverpool Football Club. In truth the transfer speculation never really has an ‘off-season’; the rumors continue through twelve months of the year. However on Liverpool coach has given some insight into the club’s transfer philosophy in his latest interview.

Speaking of meeting Klopp for the first time he says:
“When Jurgen Klopp arrived at the club, I saw straight away that he’s exactly the same off the screen as he is on it. There’s not a face for the camera and then a face for other people – he’s exactly the same, which I love. I met him on the first day he arrived at the club, and from moment one he’s had the same personality, same laugh, same enthusiasm.”
The connection between the two has only strengthened during the German’s time as Liverpool boss. There is now huge trust in Inglethorpe and the Academy’s potential to stock the first team with stars.
Speaking of his current crop: “We’re getting better at what we do with the younger ages, which means the need to recruit at the age of 15, 16, 17 is going to decrease. I believe we’ve got players here now who will go on to play for the club.”
Evert club wants an Academy that is producing top talent, but it is clear that those at the top at Liverpool are starting to see the fruits of the investment.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is the shining example in the first team. Just behind him are Adam Lewis, Rafa Camacho and Curtis Jones who are all set to feature in the next season or two. Harry Wilson is on fire at Derby County and figures to be a contributor for Klopp in 2019/20.
This faith in the youth system means that Liverpool will be buying less and less ‘squad’ players in the transfer market. The current plan to replace Alberto Moreno as Andrew Robertson‘s understudy is to promote Lewis.
That leaves more money for Klopp to spend on top end players who will be first stalwarts. Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk are not the anomalies in the transfer market, they are the future.
