Adam Lallana set to start for Liverpool against Bayern Munich
By David Gate
Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana turned back the clock against Burnley and now is in line to start against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Adam Lallana is set to follow-up his decent display for Liverpool against Burnley with a start at Bayern Munich in the Champions League if we can take anything from Jurgen Klopp’s post-match comments.
There was a mixture of intrigue and horror on Sunday when the Reds team sheet for the visit of The Clarets was announced. Some parts of the fanbase were hoping to never see him in a starting lineup again after two years of injuries, aborted comebacks and underwhelming performances.

However there is also a chunk of the fanbase who have witnessed surprising midfield inclusions from the manager all season turn out well for those matches. Make no mistake – everyone was surprised.
The England international gave his best showing in years, but that isn’t saying a whole lot. The reality is it was a decent, not spectacular display, marked by one excellent tackle that led to Liverpool’s second goal.
When questioned about Lallana’s inclusion the manager highlighted how well he has done in training. The midfielder has clearly been impressing in preparation even if he hasn’t been able to recreate that in his limited first team opportunities this season.
Klopp made mention of the tackle and, most notably, Lallana’s pressing. He made specific note that if the midfielder can do that ‘especially’ and if he continues in the same vein it will be a ‘game changer’.
Many of us have been puzzled by the lack of confidence from Klopp in both Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita. His comments yesterday give us keen insight: pressing is the key and Lallana does that in the way he wants.
That paves the way for him to be included against Bayern Munich where the pressing will be key. It could well be the same midfield three against the Germans or perhaps Jordan Henderson in there for one of those three.
Either way there will be a significant amount of fans filled with worry when the team is announced on Wednesday. Fortunately for Liverpool, Klopp is not moved by our reactions, over-reactions and anxieties.
