Liverpool are competing with Man City for the Premier League title but they won’t have to fight them for the transfer of Bruno Fernandes if they make an offer

There is a lot to think about if you are a Liverpool fan at the moment. Particularly a Champions League final with Spurs and a chance to win the Premier League this weekend. However the transfer window is about to open and the Reds won’t have to fight Man City for the signature of Bruno Fernandes.

According to reports Man City are not planning on making a transfer bid for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder. That leaves Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool as the leading destinations for the Portuguese star.

The media in Portugal have been linking Jurgen Klopp to a move for Fernandes over the past six months. Sporting Lisbon are hoping to cash in on their star player and are hoping for a £90 million fee.

There is little doubt who he would want to join if he has the choice of Premier League clubs now City are out of the race. Man United and Chelsea are both more desperate and would surely put huge offers on the table.

However it is Liverpool who are heading to the Champions League final for the second year running and are challenging for titles with an elite squad and manager.

The question is money. I doubt that the Reds will want to blow most of their budget cementing a position where they already have plenty of quality.

Fernandes would have to compete with Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Gini Wijnaldum, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner for game time.

It is far more likely that Liverpool will look at signing a wide player like Julian Brandt and possibly a left back to back up Andrew Robertson.

My guess if that Bruno Fernandes ends up at Chelsea as they try to improve on this season’s disappointing Champions League campaign.
