Michael Edwards plays a blinder with latest Liverpool transfer coup

Liverpool fans are delighted with sporting director Michael Edwards after he managed to get his transfer valuation for Ryan Kent for his Glasgow Rangers move.
Liverpool have increased their sizable profit from this summer’s transfer window on deadline day by selling Ryan Kent to Glasgow Rangers, marking more excellent business from Michael Edwards.
The club’s sporting director has brought in almost £35 million of profit this summer as well as reducing the wage bill setting Liverpool up for some big spending in the next few windows.

After a proposed move to Leeds fell through in August, the market for Ryan Kent was reduced to just one club – to return to Rangers where he spent last year on loan.
The Glasgow side had refused to match the Reds’ asking price all summer, using the player’s desire to join and few competitors for his signature to play the long game.
However, Edwards is no pushover. He held out for the £7 million fee and the Ibrox side blinked first, sealing the move yesterday.
That is an incredible fee for a player who made just one senior first team appearance and is about to turn 23-years-old.
The BBC Sport report on the deal has some of the details: “The deal guarantees Liverpool £6.5m, with an extra £1.5m in potential add-ons. There is also a 20% sell-on clause because the European champions think Kent has the ability to return to the Premier League in future.”
The big net transfer gains this summer have been a point of contention for some fans who are frustrated that the club did not capitalize on their Champions League success by spending money to bolster the squad this summer.
However, the optimistic Reds are positing the club did not spend this summer because they are positioning themselves for a big move next year – Kylain Mbappe is the dream target. Either way, getting good money for unnecessary squad players is great for the club.
